Local Walmart Stores (#1881 and #2735) honored this year’s graduating High School and College Seniors, who happen to be Walmart employees, in a memorable and momentous celebration.

Much thought and planning went into this graduation and it was so much more than the students and their families anticipated.

With the schools shut down, online zoom classes, sports on hold, movie theaters and malls closed during this time of quarantine, these students thought they would have to miss out on one of the most monumental times of their lives and dreams.

Store managers welcomed graduates with touching speeches

Thanks to Walmart’s partnership with Sacramento Helping Hands, the day was great — as memorable an occasion as any traditional graduation.

Complete with fully-decorated stage, balloon arches, live DJ, diplomas, caps & gowns, photographers and videographers and swag bags, the festivities were amazing.  The Sacramento Sheriff’s joined us, along with area businesses to add to the perfect graduation celebration.

Out of town relatives were able to watch it all on Facebook live and share the memory as well.

Store managers welcomed graduates with touching speeches and each student was able to walk the stage and receive their certificate from dedicated employers and co workers in front of proud family and friends.

Students were grateful for the time and effort Walmart and the community put into this wonderful celebration.  They knew that they had people who truly cared about them and valued their future.

Sacramento Helping Hands was thrilled to partner with Walmart and touch the lives of our community and our future.  It’s so fulfilling to be a part of our community’s efforts to make this time of uncertainty very encouraging.

Trips to the grocery store can be daunting to our aging population for a number of reasons.
Increase in traffic, people walking and riding bikes, traffic lights and activity in general is often more than seniors can handle and can tend to cause anxiety.
With the various health concerns and government mandates out at this time, it can be more appealing and even wiser for this population to keep their errand running to a minimum.

If you, or anyone you know.....

Another reality is the escalating price of a trip to the grocery store for the necessities. Many of our retired neighbors are on a very fixed income and need to cut corners everywhere they can.

The good news is — Sacramento Helping Hands has partnered with organizations in the community to provide our seniors with groceries — including paper products, personal hygiene items and even pet food.
Plus — we have a team that delivers to seniors in the Sacramento area, including apartment complexes and retirement mobile home communities.

If you, or anyone you know, is on a fixed income and would like to receive some non-perishable groceries , Call 916-348-3200 or send an email to info@sachelpinghands.org

Christmas is a time of giving and a special time for families to enjoy the festivities of the holiday season together.  This is a time to make precious memories that last forever.  Sac Helping Hands team saw that many families were not in a position to celebrate as they would like to.  The plan unfolded and we partnered with local businesses to “Adopt a Family” for Christmas.

In a very short period of time, the trend caught on and individuals and families who were in a position to adopt their own family did so as well.  Our desire is to be the connecting force to make it happen.

There have been hundreds of families who have been touched by this remarkable giving event — both the givers and the recipients.

Each year we do it a little differently.

We partner with local schools and organizations who nominate families that they know are in situations beyond their control that prevent them from having an enjoyable Christmas.  They are interviewed and matched with their adoptive family.  Wish lists are created for the kids AND the parents. The Adoptive family or business shops and presents the gifts to the family awaiting the holiday surprise.

Each year we do it a little differently.
Some of our partners have donated Christmas trees, Christmas dinners, some have dropped off gifts themselves.  We have gone to different facilities to have a huge “meet, greet, eat and open gifts.”  Local retail stores have helped us with gift wrapping stations, complete with Christmas cookies!
The reactions of the families who are surprised with the gifts are priceless.  They are so grateful.

The generosity of the businesses, organizations, families and individuals who participate in the giving end of this event is amazing.  Talk about the joy of giving……. experience it with us and be a part of Adopt a Family with Sac Helping Hands.

This weekend FC Joyce elementary school is celebrating that no student will have to go to school without the necessary school supplies

The parking lot of Family Community Church became the distribution site for supplies and a place for children to get free back to school haircuts leaving many parents amazed.

This is a blessing to us, I was actually unable to afford to purchase school supplies and coming here and seeing this has been a dream come true.

Principal Jim Davis says he’s looking forward to his kids getting what they need so they can focus on a successful school year!

Providing supplies allows the kids to focus on a successful! school year
